Adrift

Life can be like a sailing boat, an empty vessel,
Drifting aimlessly in a wide open space,
No port on the horizon to focus on,
No imprints to show where it's been,
An insignificant speck,
Afloat, in this continuous expanse,
All general meaning lost,
Adrift on the abundant vastness of nothingness.

Then, the ray of hope and salvation,
Shines through the night sky,
Responding to the signal of distress,
A new day dawns,
Illuminating a pathway out of the darkness,
Into the light of a new tomorrow.

Bridge to the Future

Thank you creativewritingink.com for this
week's picture!
As always, all comments, criticisms, suggestions
are greatly welcomed.

The journey across to the unknown land
Is made easier with you, holding my hand

Looking over our shoulders, to where we came from
Both trying hard to stay focussed and strong

All that's familiar, destroyed and gone
The attrocities and destruction, so very wrong

Walking all day and into the night
Finally the rope bridge comes into sight

We take our first steps on the wooden structure
And hope we are crossing to a brighter future

The Dance of My Life

You looked so radiant on our wedding night
The snow fell like confetti and reflected the light
Each flake held a word that would melt on our hearts
Our love song created, what a great start

The band were fantastic and struck up a chord
Guests freely dancing of their own accord
We sang and we danced under the new moon
Not wanting this magic to end too soon.

When the wedding was over, our dance carried on
Some unsteady steps, but what could go wrong?
We knew our lyrics, we had our song
You and I together is where we belong

The marriage dance is complicated,
Not one to be under estimated
The steps can’t be rehearsed in anyway
The rhythm and beat can change day to day

The tempo can change from fast to slow
One minute a foxtrot and then a tango
Though the beat can change, the rhythm too
Our love song always came shining through

There were times when it felt like we were out of sync
Our words seemed distant and we needed to think
And then our love song would come into view
I knew I would always be dancing with you

Oh I know our dancing wasn’t always plain sailing
The blisters and sores could leave us wailing
If I stood on your toes with my clumsy great feet
To forget our song would have meant defeat

There were highs and lows in our marriage dance
At times we were probably lacking romance
Then our love song would come flooding back
We always knew we were safe and on track

The music has stopped now, the show can’t go on
The curtain is down, my partner is gone
The band packed away, we’re dancing no more
Oh what I’d give now for my feet to be sore

The memory of our faithful love song
Will remain in my heart and keep me strong
I’ve had the best dance of anyone’s life
Rest In Peace now, my darling wife.

Thanks creativewritingink.com for another stimulating picture for us to get our teeth into!

I tried really hard to avoid creating a poem that rhymed this week.  Honest, I did, but I kept hitting a wall!  The aim of this piece of writing was to be metaphorical in my approach to marriage.  I'm not sure if I have achieved this with the 'marriage dance' or not.  Any suggestions or comments will be willingly taken on board.

Thank you!
