I've always wanted to try my hand at writing, but I've never really had the time until now. I didn't know where to begin, but thanks to www.creativewritingink.com I now have my starting point! Your comments, criticisms are most welcome! Enjoy!
Cycling up this cobbled hill
Will be the death of me, it surely will
Each turn of the pedal, the groan of the chain
Sends aches down my legs, I feel the pain
To make matters worse, there's the bridal shop
Keep cycling past, don't look, don't stop
The elegant dress is always there,
The one my sweetheart had picked out to wear.
I imagine how beautiful she would have been
Looking back now, it's all a bad dream
She left me you see for his flashy sports car
Mocking my bike, sneering I'd never get far
The memories, they taunt me everyday
I wish I could get home some other way
Cycling up this cobbled hill
Will be the death of me, it surely will
Tragic

ReplyDeleteCouldn't decide whether to focus on the poor cyclist struggling to get up the hill, or focus on the bridal shop. Eventually solved the dilemma by including both!
NB: This is not based on a true story!!
I actually read this not long after you posted it, but had problems trying to leave a comment - seem to be able to now though, so can say what I wanted to then: nice poem, I like the way you end it as you start, and love the story (even if it is a sad one!)
ReplyDeleteThank you Cath!
ReplyDeleteI keep seeing a story when I see the photo prompts.
Maybe one day I will attempt to write a short one!
