Remember the couple, who sat there in love.
Gazing across the magnificent view,
He meant every word, when he told her, “I love you.”
The following year, was almost the same,
The couple returned,to the mountain again.
They sat in those chairs, gazing out far and wide,
Then he whispered to her,“Will you be my bride?”
One year later and the couple had wed,
Instead of a honeymoon, they came here instead.
On the two subtle thrones, sat husband and wife,
He said, “I will treasure you, for all of my life.”
They returned each year,to the mountain top
Except for one year, when they had to stop,
The chairs remained empty,on this red letter day,
A baby, you see, was well on its way
The chairs reminisced, about the couple they knew,
Who returned every year,to admire the view.
When their son grew up, and no longer came,
Their love for each other, remained the same.
The couple are frail now, the journey’s too long,
The chairs are still happy though, don’t get me wrong
Their son had enjoyed each summer’s expedition
And vowed to continue the yearly tradition.
Two empty chairs, looking down from above
Saw the son approaching, with his new love.
Gazing across the magnificent view
He meant every word, when he told her, “I love you.”
Lovely story, like a novel indeed. My congratulations.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, this is excellent! I like the way each stanza showed a chapter in the couple's life together... but my favorite part is when the story went full circle.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!! Reminded me a little bit of the film 'Up!' when he looks through the photo album and remembers his life with his wife - such a lovely poem :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Wanda, CBCondez and Cath, so much for your positive comments. I was determined not to have a 'broken heart' this week!
ReplyDeleteFunny, my husband also said it reminded him of the film 'Up!' too.
Wow! This is really amazing! I was grinning from ear to ear when I read this. Hats off to you! What a sweet story!
